On the results of the local government elections of October 12, 2025

On the results of the local government elections of October 12, 2025

In very demanding conditions, the results have confirmed the CDU as an important force in local government. The results show a decrease in the CDU’s electoral expression – whether in terms of its votes and mandates, or in terms of the municipalities where it is the majority force. This result does not reflect the recognized legacy of work and participation of its members elected to local government bodies, and will have a negative influence on the conditions that could ensure an administration corresponding to the interests of the populations.

Continue the Solidarity with the Palestinian People! For a Permanent Ceasefire! For an End to the Genocide! For a Sovereign and Independent Palestine!

Continue the Solidarity with the Palestinian People! For a Permanent Ceasefire! For an End to the Genocide! For a Sovereign and Independent Palestine!

After two years of genocide of the Palestinian people, perpetrated by Israel, the understanding that has now been announced must represent a step towards ensuring a permanent ceasefire, an end to the genocide, full access to humanitarian aid, the full withdrawal of the Israeli military forces from the Gaza Strip and an end to its attacks in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem.

The European Commission deserves to be censured! For its complicity in the genocide in Palestine! For the major economic interests that its policy serves! For the arms race it promotes!

The European Commission deserves to be censured! For its complicity in the genocide in Palestine! For the major economic interests that its policy serves! For the arms race it promotes!

As we pointed out when the motion of censure was voted last July, there is no lack of valid reasons to censure the European Commission – a censure that reality continues to demand.

End the blockade against Cuba

End the blockade against Cuba

João Oliveira, Member of the European Parliament for the PCP, submitted a question for oral answer to the European Commission and the Council of the European Union, stressing the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed unilaterally on Cuba by the United States of America.

PCP warns about the serious decisions of NATO summit

26 June 2025

After a very intense campaign aimed at justifying the arms race to public opinion, the meeting of NATO Heads of State and Prime Ministers held in The Hague on June 25 has just confirmed and formalised decisions at the highest level that worsen international tension, especially in Europe, and increase the danger of military conflicts of catastrophic proportions.

The Portuguese Communist Party Condemns the US Aggression Against Iran

22 June 2025

The PCP vehemently condemns the US aggression against Iran, which follows its support for the attacks initiated by Israel against this Middle Eastern country on June 13, 2025, in a clear violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter and of international law.

No to the use of Portuguese territory to escalate the aggression against Iran!

21 June 2025

Reports of the presence of US military aircraft in Terceira, in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, demand an immediate and urgent clarification by the PSD/CDS government. The PCP condemns any potential use of the Lajes Base by the US to escalate aggression against Iran and warns against Portugal’s involvement in this aggression, given the PSD/CDS government’s policy of alignment and subservience to imperialism.

End Israel's aggression against Iran! End the genocide of the Palestinian people! Peace in the Middle East!

13 June 2025

The PCP considers Israel's aggression against Iran to be extremely serious and strongly condemns it, following the various and serious provocations and attacks it has carried out against Iran, the genocide of the Palestinian people and Israel's continuous bombings and occupation of Lebanese and Syrian territory.

For a Portugal with a future! No to the EU's neoliberal, federalist and militarist policies!

12 June 2025

It is forty years since the signing of the Treaty of Accession of Portugal to the European Economic Community, in 1985. Portugal's inclusion in the EEC was conceived and implemented as an integral part of the counter-revolutionary process of monopolistic recovery that countered the path of equality, justice and social progress, economic development, national sovereignty and independence, peace and cooperation achieved and initiated by the Portuguese people with the April Revolution.

PCP tables initiatives on labour legislation

6 June 2025

The PCP is committed to combating right-wing politics, while at the same time intervening and taking initiatives. It is in this context that we are tabling four initiatives today with the aim of strengthening workers' rights and improving their working conditions.

PCP calls a March “Fulfil the Constitution. Raise wages and pensions, for a better life”

4 June 2025

The living conditions of vast sectors of the population continue to deteriorate. Public Services, particularly the National Health Service, but also Public Schools, are deteriorating. There is a clear lack of answers in housing or in implementing the right to public nurseries and kindergartens.

In a democracy, the investiture of the Assembly of the Republic is an important moment and one that cannot ignore life out there

3 June 2025

Greetings Mr. President. The duties you are assuming once again are of enormous importance to the proper functioning of the Assembly of the Republic, as a sovereign body that must focus its attention on what really matters to the people, responding to their wishes and aspirations, for a Country of development and progress. There can be no room for offence, insult, discrimination or hate. We will intervene as always, openly, honestly and seriously at institutional level and in the political debate. With firmness and combativeness in the confrontation between political projects.

On the nomination of Luís Montenegro for Prime Minister

29 May 2025

The President of the Republic has nominated Luís Montenegro to form and present the government. This decision paves the way for the continuation of a policy directed against the interests of the workers and the people, aligned with the agenda of the economic groups and multinationals, aimed at exacerbating the attack on social, political and democratic rights and jeopardising national interests and sovereignty.

End the genocide! Solidarity with Palestine!

23 May 2025

Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people have reached unprecedented proportions, amounting to a real genocide in the Gaza Strip, with hundreds of people killed by Israeli bombings and continuous military attacks, the blockade on the entry of drinking water, food, medicines and other essential goods, the use of hunger as a form of aggression against the population, the systematic and complete destruction of homes, hospitals and other basic infrastructure, the proclaimed purpose to militarily occupy the entire territory and expel the Palestinian people from their land, Palestine.
