The PCP strongly condemns Israel’s barbaric bombings on Lebanon, which have caused hundreds of deaths and over a thousand injuries. This crime committed by Israel can only be seen as an attempt to undermine the announced ceasefire agreement and the negotiation process aimed at putting an end to the aggression unleashed by the US and Israel against Iran and other countries in the Middle East. Israel´s Zionist regime is thus reacting, once again, by resorting to the most brutal violence against the populations.
The PCP also repudiates the recent statements by the US President in which he expressed his intention to send Iran back to the “Stone Age” and threatened to put an end to this civilisation. It is regrettable that, in the face of such unacceptable statements, there is no clear demarcation by the US’s allies, namely NATO and the European Union.
The US and Israel are the most dangerous agents of war, death and destruction against the peoples of the Middle East and the world, as well as their profound economic and social repercussions.
The PCP urges the Portuguese Government to put an end to its collusion with the US and Israeli aggression in the Middle East and – as set down by the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic – to engage in a policy in defence of Peace, seeking political solutions to conflicts, and respecting the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
The PCP rejects the path of militarisation and warmongering that continues to be promoted by the US and its allies, such as NATO, the European Union and Israel, and denounces the fact that, in addition to the serious threats this poses to Humanity – which are becoming increasingly evident – such a path inevitably amounts to a brutal attack on the living conditions of workers and peoples.
Expressing its solidarity with the Palestinian, Lebanese and Iranian peoples, as well as with all the peoples of the Middle East and the world who face imperialism’s aggression, led by US imperialism, with the support and complicity of its allies, the PCP calls for the strengthening of the struggle for Peace and solidarity with the peoples defending their sovereignty and rights.
