The Portuguese government must respect Sahrawi people's right to self-determination

The PCP rejects the Portuguese government's position of disrespecting the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people, which is enshrined in international law, in particular in repeated United Nations resolutions. The Portuguese government's alignment with the position of the Kingdom of Morocco represents support for the continuation of Morocco's illegal occupation of territories in Western Sahara, in direct violation of international law.

For an immediate recognition of the State of Palestine and an end to Israel's crimes

For an immediate recognition of the State of Palestine and an end to Israel's crimes

In view of the government's announcement of contacts about a possible recognition of the State of Palestine, deferring a possible decision to September, the PCP reiterates that such a decision is urgent and should have already been implemented, as the PCP has repeatedly proposed in Parliament. The announcement that has now been made by the Prime Minister, is inseparable from the pressure of public opinion and the broad movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the ongoing crimes perpetrated by the State of Israel.

On the ‘trade’ agreement between the US and the European Union

On the ‘trade’ agreement between the US and the European Union

1. The US/EU agreement signed by Trump and Von der Leyen constitutes a deplorable act of surrender by the EU in the face of US impositions and interests. An agreement signed by the President of the European Commission that neglects the interests of EU countries and their peoples, particularly Portugal.

The PCP condemns the government's complicity in Israel's crimes

The PCP condemns the government's complicity in Israel's crimes

No words can express the horror and suffering that Israeli Zionism and US imperialism are inflicting on the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and also in the occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with the criminal complicity of the European Union. Day after day, the mainstream media show images of boundless violence and cruelty and a sinister accounting of the deliberate murder of populations, including the infamous imposition of starvation that is hitting babies and other children particularly hard.

It is Urgent to End the War

18 January 2025

Continue solidarity with the Palestinian people! End the genocide! Permanent ceasefire! Free and independent Palestine!

18 January 2025

The announced ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, whose fulfilment and implementation needs to be verified, must ensure an effective end to the attacks and massacres carried out by Israel, the unconditional access of urgent humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population of the Gaza Strip - which has been prevented by Israel - and the complete withdrawal of Israeli military forces from this Palestinian territory.

Develop solidarity with Cuba! End the blockade!

16 January 2025

The Biden administration's decision to remove Cuba from the arbitrary US list of so-called “State Sponsors of Terrorism”, four years after its inclusion by the Trump administration, is the result, first and foremost, of the just and persistent struggle of the Cuban people to defend their sovereignty and rights, as well as the repeated position of various countries and the action of the Cuba solidarity movement.

PCP condemns the attack on the Venezuelan Consulate in Lisbon

12 January 2025

The PCP strongly condemns the attack on the Consulate General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Lisbon and urges the competent Portuguese authorities to investigate and hold the perpetrators responsible. This is an unacceptable act that cannot fail to be seen in the light of the practice of terrorist violence that Bolivarian Venezuela has suffered over the years.

Closing speech of the XXII Congress of the PCP

16 December 2024

Allow me to greet the guests who greatly honor us with their presence, various organizations and structures, associations, movements, political parties, social organizations, among which I highlight the CGTP-IN delegation. A special greeting to our allies, the Ecologist Party “Os Verdes”, the Democratic Intervention Association,, and the many independents, without party affiliation, who are part of this project of work, honesty and competence that is the CDU.

Opening speech of the XXII Congress of the PCP

13 December 2024

Heartfelt greetings to the delegates who are representing here our party collective. Greetings that we extend to the guests who are here and to all those who are watching via our [online] broadcast. I would also like to salute our friends from the most diverse institutions and organisations, from various political, social and cultural quadrants, who greatly honour us with their presence.

Anti-democratic operation, invoking the 25th. of November

25 November 2024

The session on the 25th. of November that took place today in the Assembly of the Republic proved to be a moment of confrontation with the April Revolution, its achievements and values, inseparable from the growing promotion of reactionary and fascistic conceptions that were paraded there by the main promoters of this provocation.

«The privatisation agenda and the operation against April - defeat right-wing policies and reactionary projects»

20 November 2024

Just as the nationalisations were a central feature of the revolutionary process, from their implementation through the actions of the People-Armed Forces Alliance to their enshrinement in the Constitution of the Republic on April 2, 1976, the privatisations were also one of the central elements of the counter-revolutionary process, first in the reconstruction of monopoly capitalism and the power of the big families, later on in the denationalisation of the economy and many of its strategic sectors, with the consequences that are there to see: the destruction of the productive apparatus and

On the elections in the United States of America

6 November 2024

The elections in the United States of America, with the degrading spectacle of the electoral campaign, as well as the opaque and undemocratic nature of the electoral system, portray the marked level of degradation reached by the US political system, which however arrogates to itself the right to give the world lessons in ‘democracy’. A system in which mechanisms and manoeuvres aimed at subverting the popular expression multiply, starting with the control of campaign funding by economic and financial groups, including those in the arms sector.

Solidarity with Cuba! End the US blockade!

25 October 2024

We express our solidarity with the people and government of Cuba in view of the energy situation the country is experiencing, which has been compounded by adverse weather conditions. In recent days, Cuba has experienced a difficult situation in terms of its energy system, which has led the country to face power cuts that, thanks to the efforts made, have been completely resolved in the last few hours.
