PCP condemns the «recognition» and support announced by the Socialist Party (PS) Government, with the support of PSD and CDS, of the puppet «president» nominated by the Trump Administration for Venezuela, which counted on the immediate support by Bolsonaro, in an intolerable affront to the sovereignty and independence of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the Venezuelan people, the United Nations Charter and International Law.

Disrespecting the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and contrary to the interests of the Country and the Portuguese people, the PS Government chose open support for the coup operation against Venezuela, becoming co-responsible for the current escalation in aggression conducted by the USA, supported by the EU, and for its grave and dangerous consequences for the Venezuelan people and the Portuguese community living in that country.

PCP considers this position of followership with the interference against Venezuela extraordinarily serious, and aligned with the most aggressive, putschist and reactionary sectors, responsible for other aggressions, such as Iraq, Libya or Syria.

PCP reiterates that aligning with those responsible for attempts of coup d'État, violence and terrorism, sanctions and economic blockade, illegal confiscation of the Venezuelan assets and financial resources or provocation at its border under the guise of so-called «humanitarian aid», as well as threats of a military intervention as reaffirmed by Trump, is not an action in the defense of the interests of the Venezuelan people and the Portuguese people, including the Portuguese community in that country.

The only positions consistent with the defense of peace, the interests and aspirations of the Venezuelan people is the respect for their right to decide their future, without external interventions.
