The PCP condemns the unacceptable aims of the Trump Administration to impose a puppet government in Venezuela, which would guarantee the appropriation by US oil multinationals of resources belonging to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to the Venezuelan people.
The PCP denounces and condemns the serious threats made by the US against several Latin American and Caribbean countries, such as Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia and Mexico, and reiterates that these also constitute a threat to all the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the entire world.
US imperialism openly and shamelessly proclaims its intention to impose its political and economic domination over the entire American continent in order to exploit and plunder its natural resources.
The PCP denounces the deplorable position taken by the Portuguese Government, which not only fails to condemn the US aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the abduction of its President, Nicolás Maduro, but also shamefully tries to legitimise it, thereby becoming an accomplice to this flagrant violation of international law.
The Portuguese Government's shameful attempt to present as “benign” the intentions of US imperialism to “govern” Venezuela and appropriate its oil resources, in an openly neocolonial stance, can only be repudiated. This position confirms the nature of a Government willing to sell out the national interest.
Defending the interests, well-being and security of the Portuguese community in Venezuela does not mean whitewashing and aligning with the imposition of an inhumane economic blockade, the theft of assets, interference, destabilisation and aggression against this Latin American country by successive US administrations – which have had such a devastating impact on the living conditions of the Venezuelan people, including the Portuguese community – as successive Portuguese governments have done. Defending the rights of the Portuguese community means demanding an end to the aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and respecting the sovereignty and rights of the Venezuelan people.
Reaffirming its firm condemnation of the military aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by the US, the PCP calls for expressions of solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela and with the struggle of the Venezuelan people in defence of peace and the right to sovereignly determine their own path.
