Release from the PCP Press Office

For an immediate recognition of the State of Palestine and an end to Israel's crimes

In view of the government's announcement of contacts about a possible recognition of the State of Palestine, deferring a possible decision to September, the PCP reiterates that such a decision is urgent and should have already been implemented, as the PCP has repeatedly proposed in Parliament. The announcement that has now been made by the Prime Minister, is inseparable from the pressure of public opinion and the broad movement of solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the ongoing crimes perpetrated by the State of Israel.

The explicit recognition of the State of Palestine, in the pre-1967 borders and with its capital in East Jerusalem, as determined by the resolutions adopted by the United Nations, should not be subject to external constraints and dragged over time, as the government wants. In view of the situation and in the immediate future, such a decision must necessarily be accompanied by the condemnation and demand for an end to the ongoing genocide, the bombings and attacks by the state of Israel in Gaza and the West Bank and the implementation of the national rights of the Palestinian people, an essential condition for a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
