On the results of the first round of the presidential elections in France

The results of the first round of the French presidential elections held in a situation of state of emergency and in a context of great pressure and political conditioning express a defeat for the parties responsible for implementing the policies and guidelines of the European Union and the interests of big business in France, notably by the Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande governments.

In a framework where the second round of these elections, on May 7, there is a far-right xenophobic candidate and an ultra-liberal candidate linked to the interests of financial capital and committed to the strengthening of the European Union of monopolies and major powers, it is very important to develop the struggle of the workers and of the French people to uphold their rights and sovereignty, continuing their best traditions of struggle for freedom, social progress and peace.
