PCP firmly condemns the escalation of Israel's war against Lebanon that is once again targeting the Lebanese people and is inseparable from the genocide by Israel’s Zionist government against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, which and threatens to ignite the entire Middle East.
Israel is committing the worst war crimes on a daily basis and cynically and arrogantly claiming that it will not respect UN resolutions nor the International Court of Justice's rulings and that it will continue on its path of terror until it achieves the explicit objective of occupying all of Palestine.
PCP considers the complacency and even complicity of the mainstream media (including public media) to be very serious, as they tend to justify Israel's aggressive policy and trivialize the Palestinian tragedy or the brutal aggression against Lebanon.
PCP considers the Portuguese Government's silence regarding such a grievous situation to be particularly serious and calls of its unequivocal demarcation from the crimes practiced by Israel.
Once again, PCP stresses that the Palestinian issue is the central issue in the Middle East. Alongside the urgent solidarity with the Lebanese people, the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the end to aggression and oppression in the West Bank, with the recognition of the Palestinian state in accordance with UN resolutions recognising the rights of the Palestinian people, remains the fundamental immediate objective of the struggle for peace in the Middle East.
PCP calls for the continuation of solidarity with the Palestinian people and the struggle for peace in the Middle East, and supports and calls for participation in the National Solidarity Day «Free Palestine! Peace in the Middle East» convened by several organizations and that will take place between October 2 and 12 in several cities throughout the country.
