Expressing its concern for the worsening situation in the Middle East, the PCP vehemently condemns the escalation of war promoted by Israel, namely its new aggression against Lebanon, which confirms Israel’s intention to expand the conflict to the entire region.
One year of genocide against the Palestinian people, and successive provocations and attacks against various countries, prove that Israel’s Zionist Government is not interested in peace in the Middle East.
The main responsibility for the serious and dangerous situation in the Middle East lies with Israel and is inseparable from the impunity and the military and political support that the United States of America and the NATO and European Union powers continue to guarantee it, despite its criminal policy and its reiterated rejection of all calls for an immediate and permanent cease-fire.
In expanding the war to Lebanon and Syria, in intensifying its attacks against Yemen and in provoking a confrontation with Iran, Israel counts with the protection and an even more direct involvement of the USA, and with the complicity of the other imperialist powers, in an attempt to impose the occupation of all of Palestine and domination over the whole region.
The most recent developments are also inseparable from the Israeli policy of assassinating political leaders, through which it tries to prevent and make unviable any political solution for the conflict, which has Palestine as its central issue.
Israel acts in direct and explicit confrontation with the principles of the United Nations Charter and of International Law, as is once again demonstrated by its attitude towards the United Nations Organisation, including its Secretary-General.
There is an urgent need for steps to force Israel to abandon its policy of escalating death and aggression, to accept an immediate and permanent cease-fire in the Palestinian territories and in Lebanon, and to put an end to its aggressive actions against countries in the region.
The PCP reaffirms its solidarity with the peoples of the Middle East, namely with the Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese people, and with their resistance in the face of Israeli attacks and crimes. It reaffirms that a just and lasting peace in the Middle East demands an end to aggression, to the occupation, to the crimes against the Palestinian people, and the recognition of its national rights, namely the right to establish a State of Palestine in the 1967 borders and with capital in Jerusalem, as stipulated by the relevant UN resolutions.
The solidarity with the Palestinian people, with the Lebanese people, with all peoples of the Middle East, takes on greater significance, as a contribution to halt the escalation of confrontation and war that is promoted by imperialism, and which threatens to engulf Humanity in a tragedy of enormous proportions.
The PCP calls for participation in the National Events of solidarity with the Palestinian people and for Peace in the Middle East, which will be held from October 2 to 12 in several cities of our country, and to which dozens of organisations have already pledged support.
