Paulo Raimundo, General Secretary of the PCP, attended the demonstration that gathered thousands of people in the centre of Lisbon to demand an end to the violence and support the struggle for the independence of Palestine. The demonstration closed the National Days of Solidarity with the Palestinian people, which took place from October 2 to 12 all over the country, under the slogan “Free Palestine! Peace in the Middle East”.
This series of actions, which have taken place in various places across the country and were supported by dozens of associations, are an expression of the widespread outrage with the war, as well as the profound solidarity of the Portuguese people with the peoples of the Middle East.
Expressing its concern about the worsening situation in the Middle East, the PCP strongly condemns the escalation of war promoted by Israel, namely with the recent aggressions against Lebanon, which confirms Israel's intention to extend the conflict to the whole region. More than a year of genocide against the Palestinian people and continuous provocations and attacks on various countries show that Israel's Zionist government is not interested in peace in the Middle East, encouraged by the impunity and military and political support that the United States of America and the powers of NATO and the European Union continue to guarantee it.
The PCP reaffirms its solidarity with the peoples of the Middle East, particularly the Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese peoples, and their resistance against Israeli attacks and crimes.
