We endorse measures aimed at prevention and social support and we distance ourselves from the State of Emergency
2 April 2020
Mr. President of the Parliament,
Mr. Prime-Minister,
Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the Parliament,
The measures aimed at preventing and containing the spread of the virus are not the measures under the State of Emergency and PCP will not allow the former to be confused with the latter.
We remain convinced that Portugal requires measures aimed at preventing and containing the spread of the virus and we underline the reservations that we have regarding the State of Emergency and that explain our distancing therefrom.

30 March 2020
The first word of the PCP is for the farmers, fishermen and workers.
For all those who persistently continue to sow seeds on the soil, plant their crops, fertilize, till, prune, dig, feed and care for their animals, for all agricultural workers, including the migrants who are so often under subhuman conditions and that the big landowners and middlemen leave to their fate on the first occasion, and those who continue to go to the sea, to ensure the supply of our markets and the food of the Portuguese people.
«Fight the epidemic outbreak, fight the law of the jungle, defend and protect workers' rights»

The current epidemic outbreak has to be tackled, prevented and fought with determination, mobilizing the means and resources essential to defend health and life. «You can count on the PCP to resist difficulties and to defend rights»
20 March 2020
I would like to share with you this feeling of unease that assails us in the face of the situation we are experiencing.
But also to affirm and share the hope that we will overcome the difficulties and dangers that we face, where words have to give way to action, preventive measures and clinical treatment that safeguard life, health and rights.
They ask us for how long. We are sure of only one thing: we will overcome this difficult moment.

«Capitalism's depeceptions»
19 March 2020
Translated "Avante!"article by Pedro Guerreiro, Member of the Secretariat of the CC and Responsible of the International Department
News follow one another at an ever increasing pace.
The US Administration downplays the adoption of vital public health measures in the country; it shamelessly expresses xenophobic views and rejoices at the impact of the epidemic outbreak in China, which it deems to be positive for US economy; it seeks to get hold and secure exclusive use of a future vaccine being developed by its own allies…
On the request of authorization for declaration of state of emergency
18 March 2020
Mr. Speaker,
Mr. Prime Minister,
Ladies and Gentlemen Members of Parliament,
Under the Constitution and the law on the state of siege and emergency, the declaration of a state of emergency should not be decided on the basis of abstract or theoretical considerations, it requires the substantiated findings of the existence of an exceptional framework that can justify such a decision and the specifically identified measures that can only be implemented following that declaration.
