ECB decides to continue the plunder of resources from families, companies and the country

The European Central Bank (ECB) decided, for the third time in a row, to maintain reference interest rates at 4.5%. This decision does not leave everything as it was. Maintaining interest rates at current values reflects the option of increasing the drain of resources from workers and families, as well as from companies, especially micro, small and medium-sized companies, to the banks, which continue to reap huge profits. This decision will also have a negative impact on State financing costs.

PCP’s Electoral Programme: Fair, necessary and urgent

Comrades and friends, A first greeting to all those present, in particular to our comrades, from the Ecologist Party “The Greens”, from Intervenção Democrática, to all those who, having no party affiliation, find in the CDU their project, the strength of word, of dignity, of trust. A greeting that I extend to all those who were involved, committed and helped build the PCP’s Electoral Programme that we present here today.

An electoral programme that meets the most pressing interests and creates the economic and social bases to ensure the country's future

Comrades and friends, We are having legislative elections because the government with an absolute majority of the PS fell. Apart from the judicial inquiry invoked, the Government fell because it did not respond to the problems that affect the lives of the workers, the people, and the country. Low wages and pensions, increased cost of living, brutal increase in housing rents and bank loan payments, deterioration of public services: this is the legacy of the Government with an absolute majority of the PS.

Those who have worked a lifetime have the right and we have the duty to guarantee them the rest of their life with quality

Greetings to everyone present at this get-together lunch. A lunch with so many comrades, with so many friends, with so many trustworthy, honest, dedicated, hard-working people who deserve a better life. People from this land of struggle and resistance, people who know that each of the rights, each of the advances is in the hands of each and every one. It is in the hands of all of us, every day we fight for what we are entitled to and for what we have, but what we really have is the right to a better life.

Peace in the Middle East! Independent Palestine!

100 days. 100 days of bombings that have killed more than 23 thousand people, including over 9000 children. 100 days of destruction of homes, schools, hospitals, healthcare centres, the lives of even those who survive. But it is also 100 days of international solidarity that does not wane.

Here there is strength, there is will and determination to build a great election result for the CDU

Allow me to start with a greeting to all of you, to our allies from the Intervenção Democrática Association, from the Ecologist Party “The Greens” and to the many, many democrats without party affiliation who constitute and build the CDU Unitary Democratic Coalition. We are about to end this important National Meeting.

«Social Issues» Contributions and Commitments for the Future of Portugal

Paulo Raimundo, General Secretary of the PCP, participated and intervened in the Hearing on the Electoral Programme regarding "Social Issues", which took place in the hall of the Alcântara Parish Council, in Lisbon. At the end of his intervention, he expressed thanks for the presence of the participants and praised the qualified contributions received, stressing the importance of basing the debate on concrete experience and knowledge of the realities addressed.

«Banks, insurance companies, postal services, telecommunications, energy, airports – privatisations have been a feast for big capital»

Here we are in this new year, which begins with new hardships and price increases. It is so in food, rents, housing loans, tolls, telecommunications, in a list that never stops, and which is always shouldered by the majority of the workers and the population, at the same time that it fills the coffers of economic groups, those for whom there are never difficulties.

New Year’s Message

I know from my own experience the difficulties that the vast majority of us face in contrast to economic groups that accumulate 25 million euros in profits per day. Injustice and inequality are a harsh reality. But it doesn't have to be, and it can't be like this. The Portuguese people spread across the world, those who live and work here, have the right to a better life. There are many people who are rightly disenchanted, outraged, and have lost faith. But the country has a future.

“It’s time to change policies”

Greetings to everyone present, to the members of the Party, to those who are not from the Party and are here and well with us. A special greeting to all the comrades and friends who guaranteed and ensure the success of all aspects of our lunch. The calendar would have it that a year ago I was here for my first lunch as General Secretary of the Party, and what a great initiative we held at that time, but although big it fell short of this magnificent lunch that we are holding here today, great participation, great mobilisation, what a great atmosphere.
