Israel's policy of occupation, colonisation and repression is a flagrant violation of the rights of the Palestinian people and of International Law.
A criminal policy that is part of imperialism’s strategy in the Middle East and has the active support of the USA, whose new Administration, headed by Joe Biden, reaffirmed the illegal decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, assuming as its the nefarious and provocative legacy of the Trump Administration.
The PCP denounces the collusion and complicity of the European Union, which while affirming its support for a two-state solution, contributes through its action and omission, to the worsening of the Israeli policy of occupation and colonisation that aims to prevent the materialisation of the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people.
The PCP urges the Portuguese Government to undertake a clear and coherent policy to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, abiding the constitutional provisions and the relevant UN resolutions that enshrine them. In this sense, the Portuguese Government should state an unequivocal condemnation of the Israeli occupation policy and its crimes and the recognition of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On this occasion, the PCP expresses the demand for the release of the thousands of Palestinian political prisoners jailed in Israeli prisons, including children, political leaders and elected members of the Palestinian Legislative Council, namely Khalida Jarrar, whose prison was recently extended, and who are in many cases, in administrative detention and subjected to a full range of violence and deprivation, including torture.
The PCP reaffirms its solidarity with the Palestinian people and their heroic struggle against the occupation and for the materialisation of their national rights, namely with the constitution of a sovereign, viable and independent state of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the solution of the refugee issue in accordance with UN resolutions.
