The elections for the National Assembly of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela - held under the impact of a cruel economic and financial blockade - represented an affirmation in defence of the path of national sovereignty and independence, justice and social progress, development and cooperation by the Venezuelan people.
The PCP denounces and repudiates the ongoing operations that, in the face of this defeat by imperialism and the most reactionary sectors in Venezuela, aim to delegitimize the significance of the elections, restore the puppet opposition and persist in interference and putschist violence on this country.
The PCP reaffirms its demand for an immediate end to the criminal destabilisation actions, sanctions and economic and financial blockade, imposed - in direct violation of the United Nations Charter and of International Law - by the United States of America, with the active support of the so-called Lima Group and the European Union, against Venezuela and the Venezuelan people.
The PCP urges the Portuguese Government to adopt a stand in line with the principles of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic and the interests of the Portuguese people - including the Portuguese community in Venezuela -, dissociating itself from the policy of interference and aggression promoted by the USA, with complicity of the EU, which violates and brutally attacks the rights of the Venezuelan people, including the right to decide sovereignly on their present and future.
