Release from the PCP Press Office

A Victory for the Sahrawi People

PCP rejoices with the legitimate return of Aminatu Haidar to her homeland, Western Sahara, and to her family - after a 32 day hunger strike, following her detention by the Moroccan authorities in the El Aaaiun airport, on November 23th, and sent to Spanish territory - and considers that this a victory of the struggle of the Sahrawi people.

Since the first moment, PCP has manifested its support with the struggle of Aminatu Haidar, developing multiple initiatives of solidarity, including the approval,by the Portuguese Parliament, of PCP's proposal of a vote of solidarity and the trip of PCP's European Parliament group to Lanzarote, reaffirming its long lasting solidarity with the just cause of the Sahrawi people and the Polisario Front, its legitimate representative.

Faced with the continuous disrespect with international law and the deplorable and constant attempts by the Moroccan authorities in blocking the implementation of the UN resolutions, PCP reaffirms its demand for the full respect of the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination as the only viable, just and durable solution to the conflict, that is, to end the unacceptable colonization of Western Sahara and the Moroccan oppression that befalls its people, with the complicity of the US and the European Union.
