Russia and China’s veto during the UN Security Council is a very rare and positive news, coming from that body. Positive, for deterring another imperialist aggression. Almost surely it will not prevent imperialism’s advance, just as the UN’s missing coverage did not avoid Clinton’s democrats and the EU social-democrats to attack Yugoslavia, or Bush’s republicans and the Blair-Aznar- Barroso troika invade Iraq. But it is positive as they cannot call upon the UN’s seal, contrarily of what occurred in Libya‘s case.
Imperialism’s reaction to the veto was delirious. Susan Rice, the USA representative at the UN, stated that “those who blockaded the ultimate effort to peacefully resolve this issue, shall have their hands stained with the blood they will shed in the future.”( in CNN, 2012.02.05). Besides confirming more blood will be shed with a non-peaceful “solution” - in which the USA will play its usual most important role - Mrs. Rice is not aware of the ridicule. She represents a country that has , not only the hands, but all its body submerged in abundant blood rivers of many millions of dead and victims of its war crimes. Ban Ki Moon, the more and more pathetic UN Secretary-General, stated that the veto “weakens the UN and the international community’s role”(in Televideo RAI, 2012.02.04). He pretends to ignore the Charter’s introduction of the body he presides to, and begins by saying: “ We, the United Nation peoples are determined to safeguard the future generations from the horror of war…”.
During his mandate, Israel launched the criminal military attack against the Gaza Strip, without BKM use his duty to actively intervene for peace. During his recent visit to Gaza, BKM was greeted by “ tenths of Palestinians during a hostile protest […]. Many belonged to families of Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s prisons, infuriated with Ban Ki Moon’s refusal in meeting them to discuss the prisoners conditions. Some threw him shoes and held placards where one could read ” enough favouring Israel ” (in BBC, 2012.02.02).
Innocent statements are heard on the resolution, currently submitted to the veto, that a military intervention was not in mind and had no more passages asking for a change of regime. The 1973 Resolution on Libya did not mention anything like that. It “only” ordered a weapon embargo, aerial interdiction, mentioned civilian protection and peaceful solutions. But Sirte and other cities were destroyed by the NATO bombs. There were tens of thousand casualties. The New York Times (2012.01.21) currently has confessed that Kadafi’s lynching had the participation of drones, USA (unmanned planes), which were in action “ till the last of the attacks, which hit Colonel Kadafi’s convoy, and brought him to his death, on the 20th October”. The Western media currently confesses ( only currently) the “rebels” NATO placed in power torture systematically. The even No Boarders Doctors organization withdrew from the “free” Libyan city of Misrata, considering that “ our mission is to give medical care to the wounded in war and the sick prisoners, and not to repeatedly treat the same sick upon torture sessions” ( in the Independent, 2012.01.27).
Whoever is shocked by the misinformation on Syria ought to recall the lies - terrific ones - with which all the previous imperialist wars were presented. Recalling the Portuguese Ambassador in Tripoli, when, at the Antena 1 microphones,refuted the “news” of the massacres coming from planes , on the 2011.02.23, - mentioned as facts in the UN’s 1973 Resolution, which Socrates government voted favourably - as well as the Passos-Portas has now done - in a clear confrontation towards our Constitution. One must listen to the false accusations of a CIA ex-agent, Philip Giraldi (in the American Conservative review, mentioned in global research. ca): “ Non-identified NATO planes, are arriving at the Turkish military bases, near Iskenderum, at the Syrian boarder, carrying weapons from the late Muamar Kadafi’s arsenals, as well as volunteers of the Libyan CNT […]. Iskenderum, is also the Syrian Free Army’s headquarters, the Syrian National Council’s armed shoulder. French and British special forces instructors are on the field, assisting the Syrian rebels, whilst the CIA and the USA’s Special Forces deliver communications and information equipment to help the rebel cause, allowing their soldiers to avoid Syrian soldiers concentrations”. The external aggression has begun.
Imperialism, in a deep crisis, is lighting fire unto the planet. The UN veto was positive. But, it is for the peoples to have the last word in defence of their collective future.
