With the approval by the Chamber of Deputies of the admission of the impeachment process of President Dilma Rousseff, the putschist offensive in Brazil took another dangerous step forward.
The PCP, recalling that the arguments used in the current process do not result from any criminal proceedings against a democratically elected President, points out that this process was launched and is led by MPs with a history of irregularities and illegalities and on whom impend cases of criminal investigation. It is symptomatic that President Dilma Rousseff is to be prevented from exercising her duties and replaced by the current Vice President, charged by the courts with corruption and bribery.
The reactionary forces and imperialism, who never accepted the defeat of their candidate in the 2014 presidential elections and have sought by all means to reverse the process of change started in 2002 with the victory of Lula da Silva, have gone a step further in their putschist offensive. Over Brazil loom real dangers of destabilization and serious political, social reversal and of sovereignty. But there are reasons to be confident that the voice of the democratic and popular forces that has been heard in powerful mass actions will end up by prevailing and defeating the putschists and blow away the spectre of a new dictatorship.
The PCP, in solidarity with the workers and the Brazilian people in defence of democracy and for the necessary enhancement of their achievements, expresses its solidarity particularly with the PC do B, PT and other forces who courageously struggle to defeat the ambitious projects of the reaction and imperialism aimed at the recovery of the position which in recent years they lost in Brazil and Latin America.
