The PCP strongly condemns the support of the United States Administration to the occupation of Western Sahara by the Kingdom of Morocco, in return for it to normalise relations with Israel, which for decades has illegally occupied Palestinian territories and oppresses the Palestinian people.
The unacceptable recognition of the occupation of Western Sahara by Morocco, now declared by the Trump Administration, is part of the US policy of consistent affront against the sovereignty and rights of peoples and, consequently, against international law.
In the same way that it disregards the national rights of the Sahrawi people, the US Administration also disregards the national rights of the Palestinian people, namely the creation of a free, sovereign and independent state, with the 1967 borders and capital in East Jerusalem, and the right of return of Palestinian refugees.
The PCP urges the Portuguese Government to condemn the decision now adopted by the US, which openly attacks the rights of the Sahrawi people and violates the principles of the UN Charter, International Law and numerous United Nations Resolutions that recognise and enshrine them.
The PCP reaffirms the demand to comply with the right to self-determination of the Sahrawi people and calls for solidarity with the Polisario Front's persistent struggle against the occupation and for the just national cause of its people.
