The Portuguese Communist Party condemns Israel's ongoing bombing of the Gaza Strip, which has already caused killed dozens and wounded hundreds among its population. This new aggression is entirely the responsibility of the Israeli government, which in recent days has opted for an escalation of confrontations, by murdering a leader of the Palestinian resistance, also killing civilians and children during this elimination operation that targeted a residential building.

Being part of a lengthy list of crimes and aggressions against the Palestinian people, whose internationally recognised rights continue to be trampled by successive Israeli governments, this bombing campaign against a population that has been subject to a fierce blockade for decades is also inseparable from imperialism’s escalation of war and aggression.

The PCP urges the Portuguese Government – contrary to what happened in previous similar aggressions – to unequivocally condemn the ongoing bombings and to intervene to prevent the already announced intention of the Israeli government to pursue them.

The PCP calls for the strengthening of solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people and for their inalienable national rights.
