O PCP condena os ataques de Israel contra a Faixa de Gaza que nos últimos dias provocaram já mais de duas dezenas de mortos, incluindo civis e crianças, entre os quais dirigentes políticos vítimas de assassinatos dirigidos, assim como os ataques com mísseis israelitas contra território sírio.
PCP condemns Israel's attacks against the Gaza Strait that during the last few days have provoked more that two dozen dead, including civilians and children, and political leaders victims of directed assassinations, as well as attacks with Israeli missiles against Syrian territory.
The criminal escalation of violence in Israel against the the population of the Gaza Strait, where Israel maintains hundreds of thousands of Palestinians refugees from their homeland is another example of Israel's policy of State Terrorism, which occurs precisely on the 24th anniversary of the proclamation of independence of Palestine by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). Attacks that are indissoluble from the attempt to boycott the discussion and voting process in the UN on the statute of Palestine and condition the result of the Israeli general elections next January.
The criminal attacks by Israel on Palestinian and Syrian territory are integrated in a strategy of imperialist war and aggression in the Middle East that after Iraq, Lebanon, the Gaza Strait (in 2008/2009) and Libya now aims Syria. This dangerous escalation of aggression and provocation can, if not immediately stopped, lead to a military conflict in the region of great proportions and dramatic consequences in the regional and international sphere.
Faced with such grave dangers, PCP appeals for the intensification of the struggle for peace and against aggression and interference against sovereign countries.
The escalation of violence in the Middle East is the result of the actions of the main imperialist powers, namely the USA and the European Union countries, like France who, in alliance with Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other dictatorial monarchies in the Arab world, and using Israeli Zionism as its forward advance, aims to ensure, via war and the submission of sovereign countries, the imperialist dominion over the abundant natural and energy resources in the region.
Expressing its solidarity with the people of Palestine in their struggle for their independence and self-determination, against the policies of occupation, colonization and state terrorism by Israel, as well as with all the peoples of the region that resist the imperialist offensive, PCP demands the Portuguese government take a clear position that, in conformity with the letter and spirit of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic, condemn the Israeli attacks on Palestine and Syria and defend a peaceful solution to the grave conflicts in the region.
