The Portuguese Communist Party vehemently condemns the coup d’état that removed the legitimate President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Evo Morales.
After disrespecting the popular will expressed in the October 20th elections, which determined the re-election of Evo Morales as President of Bolivia, the Bolivian reactionary and anti-democratic forces, with the complicity of the military forces and police, underwent a violent terrorist action against the Bolivian popular movements, its leaders and state officials, despite the multiple appeals to dialogue and initiatives towards democratic and constitutional political solutions by Evo Morales.
PCP condemns and demands the end to the persecution against members of political forces, trade unions and popular movements, and holds the putschist sectors responsible for any attempt against their physical integrity.
The coup d’état now completed has nothing to do with an alleged defence of democracy, which it violently disrespects. Rather it is part the US imperialism’s offensive in Latin America, with the real objective of defeating the process of sovereign affirmation, economic and social progress and emancipation developed in Bolivia since 2006.
PCP considers that, respecting the Portuguese Constitution, it is the Portuguese Government’s duty to express the unequivocal rejection of the coup in the State of Bolivia.
PCP reaffirms its solidarity with the popular, progressive and revolutionary forces in Bolivia, with the resistance and struggle of the Bolivian workers and people against the violent putschist repression and in defence of their sovereignty and democracy, economic and social progress, peace and cooperation.
