During the last hours the world was faced with the launching by Israel of a criminal action of great magnitude aimed against the Palestinian people.

The attacks on Palestinian territory, with the destruction of civilian infrastructures, the imprisonment of Palestinian leaders and representatives, including from the Government, together with the fresh outbreak of threats against Syria and a gross violation of its airspace, constitute an intolerable act of state terrorism, and represent a dangerous escalade of Israeli aggressiveness of unusual contours.

In view of these events, the PCP:

- expresses its firm rejection of such criminal acts and confirms its solidarity with the PLO and the Palestinian people;

- demands from the Portuguese Government a clear condemnation of the Israeli aggression and a diplomatic action to put an immediate end to it;

- considers that the present situation warrants an unequivocal condemnation of Israel by the EU and a break of its shameful alliance with the US, the main responsible for the dramatic humanitarian situation in the Palestine and the explosive tension in the Middle East;

- once again reiterates the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to its own independent State and demands the withdrawal by Israel from the occupied territories and the application of the several UN resolutions that Israel and imperialism systematically disregard.
