The PCP rejects the Portuguese government's position of disrespecting the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people, which is enshrined in international law, in particular in repeated United Nations resolutions.
The Portuguese government's alignment with the position of the Kingdom of Morocco represents support for the continuation of Morocco's illegal occupation of territories in Western Sahara, in direct violation of international law.
What is demanded of the Portuguese government is to take a clear and frontal position and make serious and credible efforts to fulfil the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination, promised decades ago by the United Nations and never implemented due to Morocco's policy of occupation and repression, which does everything it can to boycott and prevent it.
Denouncing the Portuguese government's alignment with the position of the US and the European powers that are part of the EU and NATO, which disrespects the national rights of the people of Western Sahara, the PCP calls for solidarity with the just cause of the Saharawi people and the Polisario Front, their legitimate representative.
The only just, lasting and acceptable solution is the fulfilment of the Sahrawi people's inalienable right to self-determination by putting an end to Morocco's illegal occupation of territories of Western Sahara, as determined by the United Nations.
