Translated "Avante!" article by Luis Carapinha, Member of the International Department
In Latin America, October was an intense electoral month, with presidential and legislative elections in Bolivia, Brazil and Uruguay.
At start, nobody doubted the results, with a natural emphasize for Brazil, would ever assume an enormous importance, not only on what concerned the internal plan of the processes in progress within the three Latin-American countries, but also the Latin America force correlation and the world’s situation. The global media network, submitted to the great financial capital, surrendered to the inevitability of one more victory of Bolivia’s progressive and revolutionary forces ( and most probably of the Wide Front in Uruguay), practically ignoring both countries, centring its manipulating fury on the Brazilian elections. Stakes were high and both imperialism and the great bourgeoisie did not hinder their revanchist bet to defeat president Dilma Roussef’s candidature, supported by the PT, PCofB and other Brazilian left-wing forces. A challenge which counted with the confluence and crossing of opportunism of diverse blends and origins. Capitalism structural crisis, never giving truce, in Washington and São Paulo, was preparing to stab, for a long time, to stop the difficult change process, begun 12 years before, amid the South-American colossus. The desired return of “ justice”, the great lackey bourgeoisie unto the Planalto Palace, was openly assumed as a necessary condition for Brazil’s path correction in organizations, such as, the UNASUR, MERCOSUR, CELAC and the BRICS, a permanent disturbance for the USA, and its realignment with imperialism.
Therefore, its important to underline the importance of a new right-wing defeat and the international reaction towards Latin America. Greeting Evo Morales, the first American Indian president’s re-election and MAS’ victory, and highlight the meaning of the Democratic and Cultural Revolution process, in progress in Bolivia, which deepening is a challenge for neo-liberalism and the attempts of its relaunch axioms, and an inspiration factor for the workers and peoples struggle. Greeting the Wide Front forces’ victory, in Uruguay, in which Uruguayan communists participate, and providing results that open up good perspectives to Tabaré Vásquez victory, in a second round for the presidential elections, proceeding the Uruguayan change process, and to take place in November 30th.
From Havana, Caracas and Quito, among other Latin-American capitals, messages of great satisfaction with the achieved results, have been received. In general, these elections’ significance is saved, concerning the Latin-American integration processes, and their anti-imperialist nature. Also important, are the results concerning the next electoral calendar in the region, namely, the legislative elections in Venezuela, previewed for the end of 2015, knowing the USA and the most oligarchy obscure sectors are deeply compromised with the objective of destroying the Bolivarian Revolution.
The serene rejoice towards the Latin America October victories is inseparable from the tasks of preparing the future and development of the mass struggles, which stand before the most advanced social experiences in the region, within a context of great diversity of processes and performing forces. By strengthening participation instruments and mechanisms in order to ensure better governable conditions concerning the popular desires and anxieties. Caring and reinforcing the revolutionary, progressive and anti-imperialist field fundamental unity, in order to carry on force accumulation and deepen the emancipating path and the popular progress within Latin America.
