At the time the possibility of an “agreement” on Greece is announced by the Council of Europe, beginning today, one ought to remind that,

during the last five months, the European Union and the IMF faced the desire of a political change and sovereignty of the people of Greece, by conspiring, in order to ensure the proceeding of an intensification of exploitation and impoverishment policy within Greece, and therefore, safeguard the interests and domain of the great economic and financial groups and the EU great powers.

To carry on imposing dictates over Greece, turning it into a “lesson” for other countries, being an aim of the EU and the IMF.

Manoeuvring and taking part in incoherencies, contradictions and hesitations, the EU and the IMF accommodated the Greek government – yield upon yield- to such rules, compromises and obligations, in other words, towards the policy that, within the EU framework and the Euro, led Greece towards the economic and social disaster, a huge public debt, dependence, a situation in which it has lost its monetary, budget and economic sovereignty.

Through the interference, pressure and threats, the EU and the IMF tried to impose the continuation and possibly, the aggravation of the “memorandums” policy – that is, the Greek people’s gigantic plunder, sustained by the incommensurable public debt, privatizations, exploitation and impoverishment intensifying – using for that purpose, the EU and its Monetary Economic Union (Euro) instruments, mechanisms and guidelines, that enable that same imposition.

What the EU and the IMF’s attitude demonstrate that the solution for the serious economic and social problems, which affect not only Greece, but other countries as well, within the EU, demands a rupture with the European capitalist integration constraints and policies, which, ensuring the political domain, impose the great powers economic domain( starting by Germany) and its great economic and financial groups.

In other words, what Greece’s example really proves is that, independently from all the difficulties, this is the resistance direction, and never the submission and subordination, by defending the interests of the people and the country. Defending the interests and accomplishment of the workers and people of Portugal desires go by national sovereignty and independence.

The right-wing policy, practised by the PS,PSD and CDS holds as a support, foreign sovereignty and dependence – namely the Euro and European Union policies. Therefore, the rupture with that policy presupposes the rupture with that conditioning and dependence. Consequently, the patriotic and left-wing alternative, for which the PCP struggles for, demands the total exercise of sovereignty and the defence of the national independence, in articulation with the cooperation, at the European and international levels.

For the PCP, the patriotic dimension is inseparable and integrates the multiple axis and guidelines concerning the alternative policy that the Portuguese workers, the people and Portugal itself, needs.

Threatening with a false “chaos” and subordinating sovereignty to its anti-democratic supra-national order, the EU,IMF, the PSD/CDS and PS government, all together as a choir, seek to make belief there is no alternative to their criminal exploitation and impoverishment policy.

Nevertheless and ultimately, it is to the Portuguese people , determinate their future, in conscientious and confidence, through their struggle that ought to break through with the right-wing policy and neo-colonial imposed tutelage, to strive the paths and directions, in the resolve of their problems and concretize its legitimate aspiration for a better life.
