Last March 13th, there was a national Public Administration strike , called for by the Common Front of Trade Unions, supported by practically all the remaining organizations with trade union representation in the sector.
In this day of struggle there was massive participation, on the order of 80%, leading to the closure of hundreds of public schools, limited the Hospitals to minimum services, closed or reduced the work in other Health and Financial services, courts and other State services, closed several municipal halls, other Local Administration offices and paralyzed several services.
Thousands of workers, who have suffered brutal cuts to their incomes, abdicated a day's wage by participating in the the one-day strike, and stopped the country so that it may move forward: against the destruction of labor rights, for the recovery of wages and career progression, for the immediate publication of the collective bargains that enshrined the 35 hour week and against the interference of the Government in collective bargaining; in defense of public services for all, the access of all citizens to exercise their fundamental rights and the social functions of the State – Health, Education, Social Security, Justice, Culture and in defense of Local Power.
