"They shall not pass"

Translated "Avante!" article by Luís Carapinha, Member of the International Department

Currently, one is living hard times throughout the world and Europe is not an exception. Watch Greece and the troika’s policy and organization, that carries on with feline enthusiasm, the country’s economic and financial asphyxia, social and economically in distress, preparing the field for an eventual scenario of a direct financial capital dictatorship. But it is within Ukraine that the anti-democratic retreat currently acquires more and more dramatic levels and proportions. The witch-hunt state policy is a more and more disturbing reality. Under the compliant attention of the “Western democracies”, the oligarchy Junta, issued from the Maidan coup, uses terror as an intimidation weapon and political repression. Upon the odious anti-communist pack, approved by the Ukrainian parliament, on April 9th, the current power serial of anti-Fascist and opponents’ assassinations proceeds. The screw is tightened, not only concerning any divergent critical opinion, but to social discontent demonstrations, that multiply within an Ukraine delivered to the drastic IMF prescription. The dictatorship regime uses as an alibi civil war and threats to the country’s integrity, as if it were not unto the Kiev’s anti- patriotic power and the masters and patronisers of both sides of the Atlantic, the great responsible for the national division and bloody escalade of the Ukrainian conflict. Whilst the Donbass remains under an economic and financial blockade – only but the bombs remain in action -, the anti-Russian hysteria does not give truce and the pro-Nazi nationalist forces are converted into heroes, never forgetting the presence of the great privatisation substantial feast and the property re-division. Porochenko ( who had promised the incautious elector that he ought to abandon “business” once elected for the presidency) increases his revenues, but it is to the transnational financial capital and to multinationals the great lump is promised to, in result of the conflict in process. An example is the perspective of the Ukrainian black fertile land plunder, which is under the USA agro-business great interests’ prey.

The described situation particularly underlines the reckoning campaign built against the UC Party and the Ukrainian communists ( a total of already 400 judicial processes of different nature, among which the main process stands concerning the UCP’s prohibition). This is equally a dementia coming to terms towards the XXth century history, its Soviet passed, that the Junta, at all cost, wishes to remove. The law, not yet enacted, which criminalizes the Soviet power, comparing it to Nazism, and forbidding communist symbols and propaganda, is in itself another dangerous precedent in the “European” path of killing freedom and fundamental rights. Besides being an insult to the memory of millions of Ukrainians, who gave their lives for Ukraine’s freedom and Fascism defeat in World War II. Its approval by RADA takes place precisely a month before the 70th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi-Fascism celebrations, and for which communists and the USSR gave a determinant contribution.

Anti-communism and repression intensifying is coincident with the military escalade in the Donbass, with Donetsk being the stage of the worst bombardments since the cease-fire agreement signature in February last, known as Minsk II. It also happens at a moment when hundreds of members of an USA elite unity land in Ukraine. In order to participate in the National Guard exercises and instruction, the military corps that involve many of the Neo-Nazi forces, which participated in the Maidan coup. Imperialism proceeds its strategic destabilization agenda against Russia. Not forgetting China. Dangerous winds of war carry on a blowing, from Ukraine. But on Sunday 16th, in Kiev, during the assassinated anti-Maidan journalist’s funeral, many hundreds shouted out: Fascism shall not pass!
