"South Korea"

Translated “Avante!” article by Albano Nunes, Member of the International Department

Owing to the current instable and unforeseeable international situation, it is necessary to follow with the greatest attention the developments in the Asia-Pacific region. Where the North-American, its NATO allies and Japan imperialist ambitions nurture extraordinary dangerous confrontation focus.

The Korea Peninsula situation is the most serious and recurrent example of the latter, and the struggle to put an end to the tension escalade and pursue a political solution, that ought to safeguard the DKPR ’s sovereignty and answer the people of Korea’s desires, concerning the pacific reunification of their millenary homeland being of the greatest importance for peace safeguard. Therefore, the gigantic popular demonstrations that led to the ex-president Park Geun –hue stepping down and to Moon Jae-in victory in the presidential elections, in May 9th last, are both a South-Korea reactionary forces and North-American defeat. Particularly important are the new president’s statements, favourable to dialogue with the DKPR and the suspension of the installment of the North-American anti-missile THAAD, directly targeted against China, with the purpose of providing the USA of a strategic military supremacy, in order to allow and unleash a nuclear attack and to protect itself from the inevitable answer.

Moon Jae-in’s election, and the possibility of a tension relief within the Korea Peninsula is an event that the great media has reluctantly delivered, as it puts in stake imperialism hegemonic plans, in a vast region unto where there exists the “ world economy gravity centre”, the stage of an accelerated run to armaments and most probably, of the greatest concentration of USA troops and naval-air means. A region where the Japanese and North-American military alliance grows non-stop, a kind of Pacific NATO, along with the proliferation and a growing number of bases and patrolling carried out by powerful naval squadrons coming from the whole Ocean, from the disputed Russian Federation Curilla islands unto the South Sea waters, in open challenge to the Popular Republic of China.

Notwithstanding, a region where the existence of a very strong opposition peace movement, the Japanese militarism regenerated and grows, threatening, ignoring the treaties that put an end to World War II, in the Far East, and endowing Japan of powerful armed forces, therefore a threat outside the Japanese territory.
