In the face of the violent attacks against the Communist Party of Chile in the recent days the Secretariat of the Central Committee of Portuguese Communist Party sent a message to the Chilean Communists condemning the provocative acts of intimidation and expressing its solidarity with the communists and the Chilean people in struggle, which is below transcribed.
"To the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Chile
Dear Comrades,
The Portuguese Communist Party strongly condemns the criminal acts of aggression against the Communist Party of Chile in the recent days, including the violent attack on Sept. 12 against the headquarters of your Party in Santiago, whose responsibility lies in the most retrograde and reactionary sectors of the Chilean society and its provocateur agents .
These provocative actions are a clear manifestation of the primary and most dangerous anti-communism - which recalls to our mind some of the darkest pages of the recent history of Chilean fascism - and a deplorable attempt of intimidation, aimed to contain the strengthening of the strong labor and popular movement and of its struggle for real democratic and progressive change, that is gathering the support of millions of Chileans.
The Portuguese Communist Party adds its voice to all those who demand a full investigation of the responsibilities for such barbaric acts; the conviction and punishment of its perpetrators and the guarantee, by the Chilean State and authorities, of free exercise of freedoms and of democratic and civic rights in Chile.
The PCP reiterates its deep solidarity with the Communist Party of Chile, with its militants and activists, as well as with the social struggles in which are converging large sections and sectors of the popular and workers movement in Chile.
Being sure that the Chilean communists and people will answer to these provocations and intimidation maneuvers of the Chilean reactionary forces with the reinforcement of the strength of the workers and people’s movement and of its unity around their just demands and aspirations, we send you, dear comrades, our fraternal greetings.
Lisbon, 16 September 2011
