Statement April 19, 2017
The Portuguese Communist Party reaffirms its solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution and the Venezuelan people, adding its voice to the denunciation of the criminal campaign of interference and destabilization waged by imperialism and the domestic reactionary forces, against the sovereignty and independence of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Confirming the dangers from the current escalation of interference, aspects that deserve special condemnation are the threats of a military intervention by the US Southern Command, the continuation of the US Administration's unacceptable Executive Order of 2015 which considers Venezuela an «unusual and extraordinary threat» to the «national security and foreign policy of the United States», as well as the extension of US political sanctions, namely in the financial sphere, against Venezuela. Likewise, the activities of interference by the OAS and its Secretary General, Luis Almagro, which seek to promote foreign interference against Venezuela, deserve the staunchest condemnation.
The intensification of the operation of destabilization against the rights of the Venezuelan people and the achievements of the Bolivarian revolutionary process, are part and parcel of the offensive by the US and the oligarchies against the important democratic advances of sovereign affirmation in Latin America and the Caribbean, with a view to perpetuating their hegemony and neoliberal policies.
In joining the April 19 World Action of Solidarity with Venezuela, the PCP underscores the significance of the sovereign and emancipatory Bolivarian process, and its democratic achievements, throughout 18 years of permanent and intense popular mobilization, in which the unity and convergence of the patriotic, progressive and revolutionary forces, and civic-military unity, played a decisive role. A path of struggle to build a better future, of justice, social progress and peace, which has taken on an enormous significance for the struggle of the workers and the peoples, in Latin America and the Caribbean, and in the whole world.
Stressing the need to continue exposing the operation of putschist destabilization and the campaign of disinformation which accompanies it, and reaffirming the right of the Venezuelan people to decide their future in a sovereign way, and in Peace, the PCP expresses its solidarity with the Venezuelan people, with the constitutional Government of President Nicolás Maduro, with the Communist Party of Venezuela, with the PSUV and other patriotic, progressive and revolutionary forces, in their struggle in defence of the Bolivarian Revolution.
Aware of the threats and complex challenges that the Bolivarian process faces in Venezuela, in a context that is to a large degree determined by the situation of economic warfare and the effects of capitalism's structural crisis, and with confidence in the resistance and struggle of the workers and the people of Venezuela to prevent the materialization of the dangerous and backward-looking goals of the operation of putschist destabilization, the PCP appeals for solidarity in defence of the Bolivarian Venezuela, for freedom, sovereignty and social emancipation, peace and cooperation among the peoples.
