Upon learning of the tragic consequences of the earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey, the Portuguese Communist Party conveyed, through the parties with which it has relations, the most heartfelt condolences and deep solidarity of the Portuguese communists to the Syrian and Turkish people.
The PCP expressed hope that the response to the immediate needs of the affected populations could be assured, including through the urgent mobilisation of international aid, and that the terrible consequences of this catastrophe would be overcome as quickly as possible.
Saluting and appreciating the efforts undertaken to support the affected populations, the PCP reaffirmed the demand for the immediate lifting of the criminal unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US and the EU against the Syrian Arab Republic, with the aim of targeting the living conditions of the Syrian people, as well as an end to the aggression and illegal occupation of Syrian territory by the US and Israel.
