The PCP denounces and repudiates the provocative and aggressive actions by the Trump Administration currently underway in Latin America, namely in the Caribbean Sea, falsely invoking the fight against drug trafficking, and warns of the serious threat posed by the growth of militarism and interventionism by US imperialism to the sovereignty and rights of the Latin American and Caribbean peoples and to peace and security in the region.
The PCP stresses that the deployment of significant air and naval military resources and plans to mobilise thousands of US military personnel to the sea borders of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela represent an unacceptable act of intimidation and interference against Venezuela and a threat to the sovereignty of other States in the region, such as Mexico.
It should be stressed that, under the false pretext of combating “drug cartels”, labelled “terrorists” by the Trump administration, it is in fact the US that has for decades promoted and supported various groups responsible for terrorist acts targeting several Latin American countries, Cuba being one such example.
The current warmongering manoeuvres by the United States, preceded by the unacceptable announcement by the US Attorney General of an increased $50 million reward for information leading to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, confirm that US imperialism flagrantly disregards the principles of the UN Charter and international law in order to impose the infamous Monroe Doctrine and interference and domination in Latin America and the Caribbean, as is also evidenced by the recent brazen pressures, interference and disregard for the sovereignty of Brazil and its democratic and legal institutions.
The PCP calls for an immediate end to the current provocations and threats against Latin American and Caribbean States and reiterates its demand for an end to the criminal and illegal blockade imposed on Cuba, as well as the arbitrary coercive measures imposed on Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and other countries in the region.
The PCP reaffirms its solidarity with Bolivarian Venezuela, with the struggle of the Venezuelan people, of the communists and progressive forces in Venezuela, as well as with the struggle of other Latin American and Caribbean peoples in defence of national sovereignty and independence, peace and social progress.
