In view of the serious situation in the Horn of Africa, the PCP:
– Condemns the North American military aggression against Somalia which constitutes an unacceptable act of state terrorism and has already caused the death of dozens of civilians and represents the opening of a new front of imperialist war in the region around the Middle East.
– Reminds that, once again, the North American Administration acts in clear disregard of the most elementary rights of the peoples and of the international law, using a supposed combat against terrorism to intensify the neo-colonialist maneuvers in the region linked to the control of its natural resources, namely the oil.
– Condemns the invasion of Somalia by the Ethiopian troops, carried out with the flagrant support of the US, in the framework of the North American offensive in the region.
– Reminds the dramatic humanitarian situation faced by the populations of the two African countries involved in the conflict and denounces the historic responsibility of the main imperialist powers in the continuation of situations of real social catastrophes in the African continent, exposed to a manipulation by the great powers – namely with the concept of a “Failed State” – and the eruption of military conflicts.
– Claims from the Portuguese government a firm stand of condemnation and the demand for an immediate end to the North American attacks; the withdrawal of the Ethiopian troops from Somalia and the defense of a political solution which has necessarily to take into account the sovereignty of the two countries and their peoples and the support for their economic and social development.
– Expresses its solidarity to the peoples and the progressive forces who in the African continent struggle to overcome the scourges of underdevelopment and neo-colonialism.
