The alleged indictment made public today by the US Department of Justice against Army General Raúl Castro Ruz sparks the strongest possible rejection and condemnation.

This is yet another shameful manoeuvre promoted by the Trump Administration, which seeks to provide a pretext for the escalation of US aggression and threats against Cuba, constituting an affront to the principles of the UN Charter and international law.

A hypocritical and unacceptable manoeuvre that seeks to portray Cuba, which is exercising its legitimate right to self-defence, as an alleged ‘aggressor’, and as alleged ‘victims’ the organisations that carry out a wide range of destabilising activities against Cuba from the US.

An example of this is the terrorist action carried out by the so-called “Hermanos al Rescate”, notably in 1996, whose leader, José Basulto, has been identified as a former CIA operative involved in acts of sabotage and assassination plots in Cuba since the 1960s. We recall the exemplary role of the Five Cuban Heroes in exposing the terrorist nature of this and other anti-Cuban organisations operating from the US.

Expressing its solidarity and support for Raúl Castro Ruiz and the Cuban people, who unwaveringly defend Cuba’s sovereignty and independence and its socialist Revolution, the PCP calls for intensified action to end the inhumane and criminal blockade and the threats of military aggression carried out by the US against Cuba.
