On the 25th. of April, tens of thousands of people took part in the popular parade in Lisbon that commemorated the 49th. anniversary of the April Revolution, as was the case in many other initiatives carried out all over the country.

Statement by Paulo Raimundo, General Secretary of the PCP, in the popular commemorative parade of the 25th. of April

Democracy is always a matter that must be preserved, working every day to build and improve. But I believe that the proof that we are now witnessing here, on this street, on this avenue and a little all over the country, proves that the 25th. of April is alive, has a lot of strength and has thousands to defend it and above all, perhaps even the most important issue, defending and fulfilling it. This is what is missing in a very wide range of situations in our life – wages, pensions, quality of life, improved living conditions, healthcare issues, housing, all matters that need to be answered – , that April opened this path and is necessary to materialise and that is what people are doing here: affirming April, the Revolution and affirming the need to fulfil April, which is something that we are far from doing. The rest are, I would say, very punctual, very isolated aspects, which do not have the expression they try to have.
