"New Year, Old Recipes"

Article by Angelo Alves, member of the Political Committee and of the International Department

2010 begins with an overall of an especially kind of elucidative events within the current historical moment one is living. The so-called "economic recovery" faith statements are not able to hide reality, marked by the deep capitalism crisis’ devastating effects. A crisis which ravaged and continues to ravage , not the great capital – data on the financial capital profits at a global level and the "recovery" of speculative movements in this moment of the year beginning, are elucidative of their "good health" – but the social and life conditions of major masses of workers and peoples.

The unemployment, poverty, and other social regressive and civilization phenomena historical rates, do not stir the capitalist profit greed. The exploitation and oppression spiral is out-there, with renovated anti-social and anti-democratic offensives, directed against the same as ever. Within the European Union, and after the great capital millionaire supports "feast", the old "responsibility" expression is taken up in order to, in the name of "the public accounts balance", point out some more batteries against both wages and labour and social rights, obvious during the Lisbon Strategy’s new version – Strategy 2020 –presentation, during the discussion on the " Overcoming the crisis’ strategy" or the Stability Pact "dictatorship" recovery.

When the environmental business "El Dorado" – the 21st Century new capitalism economic domination paradigm, which has nothing to do with a real environmental policy defence – seems to be postponed owing to the USA’s and the European Union’s intents in Copenhagen, the 2009 obvious "change" statements and the G20 forgotten meetings which give place to a new wave of privatizations, fusions and acquisitions and the even discredited IMF vigorously re-enters the scene in order to impose the old recipe of more neo-liberalism, privatizations and exploitation within "bankrupt" Greece.

This is the way the system reacts to its own crisis and, naturally, arises together with the intensifying of the system’s militarist, bellicose and repressive aspects. In Afghanistan, the military swamp reaches Pakistan, with the arrival of more technology and soldiers, in the region. In Palestine, the Gaza Strip attacks are reinitiated and Israel begins building a new wall, this time along the Egypt boarder , making one recall how frail and false was Obama’s determination on achieving a Peace agreement; within all the Middle East, Central Asia, Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, new military forces are due, just as in Yemen and Somalia and the system’s convenient NGO’s, like OXFAM, alert for the "risk" of "disintegration" of the "giant" Sudan, pointing out for the Northern Africa priority. "Terrorism" and the security paranoia fill again the newspapers pages and the "agencies" – the CIA, M15 and the Mossad – assume being the vanguard of war relaunching and transatlantic "cooperation". The "episodes" – an attack to a CIA base, perpetrated by an "agency" "informer", who missed being inspected at the entry ; a "failed" attempt, undergone by a Nigerian banker’s son, an "agencies’ "friend" or the supposed terrorists suspects imprisonment throughout the world – fulfil the Obama Administration and NATO’s war strategy, placed on Bush’s terrorism scorched, no truce war arguments.

In fact, at the beginning of this year, there are no more speeches or prizes which might hide evidence: just as the recent Iranian scientist, assassinated by a bomb, violence, war, militarism and repression are, once again, at the top of the imperialism international agenda. And one must consider this analysis in order to understand both all these events and others, such as the Cuba’s inclusion as a terrorism sponsoring country, the military incitements against Venezuela and the recent anti-communist offensive against the Bohemia and Moravia Communist Party, within the Czech Republic.
