Jerónimo de Sousa, General Secretary of the PCP, met with comrade Jose Ramon Balaguer, Secretary for International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, while in transit through Lisbon on his return to Cuba, after having represented the CPC at the VII Congress of the MPLA, held in Luanda.

During the meeting, held in a friendly and fraternal atmosphere, both Parties had the opportunity to exchange views on important aspects of the complex international situation, the situation in their respective countries and the need for the strengthening and cooperation among the Communists and other progressive and anti-imperialists forces in the world, stressing the close bonds of friendship that characterize the relations between the two Parties. During the meeting, the PCP reiterated its deep solidarity and confidence in the Cuban Revolution.

Also present at the meeting were Carmelina Ramirez, of CPC’s Central Committee staff, Johana Tablada, Ambassador of Cuba in Portugal, Melne Martinez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy, ​​as well as Pedro Guerreiro, member of the Secretariat and head of the International Department of the PCP.
