" Iran"

Translated "Avante!" article by Albano Nunes, Member of the PCP Secretariat of the CC

Even before the USA and Germany, imperialist powers which call upon the right of giving the world lessons, existed as a nation or country, Persia already was a millenary, advanced civilization, with a self-identity and notorious achievements concerning science, art and culture. The same occurred with Iraq, within the Arab world framework or even with China. These are realities which show how the development process of nations and civilizations is irregular and turbulent. The Portugal example itself explains how what in a given historical moment is advanced and progressive (“ Discoveries”) can turn into a progress backwardness and submission.

All this ought to recommend less arrogance regarding the more developed countries and forbid any racist nature superiority sign. However, this is not a question of the rational thinking sphere, but of the socio-economic system nature. The USA and Germany are imperialist powers which can only exist by intensifying workers’ exploitation, suck the worldwide peoples’ wealth and the fruits of labour, defending the most they can their supremacy, which they feel to be stealing away ( overall the USA) or seeking to impose their military power and geopolitical influence at the same level of its economic power ( Germany so-called “an economic giant but a political dwarf“). And this is what essentially determinates the aggressive dangerous escalade throughout the Middle East and Central Asia, with the USA and the European Union competing and coordinating its action in order to dominate their peoples and resources, and disturbing the geo-strategic framework unto the Far East.

Concerning Iran, at the same time one expresses our solidarity with the Iranian people struggle for their rights and in defence of their country’s sovereignty, not forgetting the Communist Party, the Tudhé Party, its legalization being an imperative of resistance itself towards imperialism, one must profit to be better acquainted with its history. At one time, one becomes fascinated by its wealth and revolted before the curtain of silence and lies, with which the system’s scribes try to justify imperialism’s crimes. And it is not indeed necessary to go beyond the middle of the last century when, within the context of great popular struggles, Mossadegh nationalizes the Anglo-PersianOil Company, Great-Britain’s property, in 1951, and which immediately launches itself in an alliance with the USA, in a conspiracy escalade to impose a Titere government in Iran.

What comes next is worthy of anthology. CIA coup, in 1953. Mossadegh stepping down and emprisonment. Reza Pahlavi, the Xa imposes a ferocious dictatorship and becomes a USA’s fundamental instrument within its “communism contention” strategy with the installing of military bases and electronic spy stations against the URRS, a long its 1500 kms border. More than twenty five years of a terrorist regime follow , in which the Xa’s secret police, the SAVAK, created with the Mossad’s help, becomes famous for its cruelty. Thousand of opponents are assassinated. Completely isolated, the dictatorship ends up by being thrown down in 1979 by a striking popular insurrection, with the presence of the communists , but equally with the ayatolahs who, upon a period of democratic changes, impose their own fundamentalist Islamic regime. The war (1980-1988) between Iraq and Iran, instigated by the USA, brings to an end much of what still had remained from that revolution.

But the external interference does not end with the hundreds of thousand dead this war provoked. Imperialism does not bear whoever does not entirely submit.
