"Elections in the Protectorate"

Article by Rui Paz, collaborator of the International Department

Recently, elections took place in the Kosovo Servian province. For a population, of which the NATO powers said, to be eager for autonomy towards Belgrade, the officially announced participation of 45%, was extremely low.

Where are the hundreds of thousand "humanitarian catastrophe" victims, which NATO invented in 1999, in order to justify the aggression against Yugoslavia? Where are the two million Albanese Kosovars, who refused to live in a multiethnic state? Poverty and unemployment, just as an epidemic, haven’t stopped to worsen since the NATO bombings in the Balkans. The aggressive powers, proceeding their separatist aims, have been supporting the territory ethnic purge, carried out by KLA ‘s leaders ( Kosovo Liberation Army), which culminated with the illegal " independence" proclamation, in violation of the United Nations 1244 Resolution, which recognizes Kosovo as integrating Serbia, in February 2008.

This is, therefore, the North American Administration and the NATO circles greetings’ meaning addressed to the "elections’ winners" and to the Pristine "Government". But there is an aspect which has been covered up, within all this process. The "electoral" act winners are referred as " organized crime key-personalities", as referred in NATO’s powers intelligence reports ( for example, in a German BND document), beginning by Hashim Thaci ( in Weltwoche, 43, 2005) , the Kosovo Head of "Government" and the " Kosovo Democratic Party". Up to 1998, the USA considered Thaci as a terrorist, having been promoted as a "liberating" leader by Madeleine Albreight and Joseph Fisher , at Rambouillet, when NATO was preparing its aggression against Yugoslavia. Rasmush Haradinaj, another KLA’s outstanding figure, makes his appearance in a United Nations intelligence report, the Central Intelligence Unit (CIU), linked with a 60 kg heroine robbery attempt. But, before the UN inspectors had the chance to interrogate him, he was taken away to a North American base by helicopter, during a flash operation. After undergoing training in the USA, he returns to Kosovo and lays the foundations of a new party, the "Kosovo Future’s Alliance".

Haradinaj, with Washington’s support, becomes Prime - Minister, in Pristine, in December 2004. However, a few months after, he was forced to resignate owing to Serbian women’s very severe ethnic cleansing, torture and rape accusations.Once in the Netherlands, he was set free, as 9 in 10 accusation witnesses, had died of violent death and the tenth, withdrew his statements. Always under protection of the North-American Administration, he has taken up his political activity. According to the referred German Intelligence document, "within the most outstanding organized crime names, practically all are but KLA or special unit’s commandants".

All points out for Kosovo to be one of Europe’s most important organized crime centres. According to Klaus Schmidt, PAMECA’s leader, a European Albania police support mission, 500 to 700 tons of opium circulate daily, throughout Albania and Kosovo. From Afghanistan, where NATO assures the Karsai clan’s survival, huge quantities of heroin arrive in Albania, due to the European Union and the USA’s markets. Objectively, NATO and its military power, is in fact, a sustenance pillar of this complicity web among the world of crime, the political structures and the monopolist groups and imperialist great powers’ geostrategic interests. In parallel, NATO, with its unjust and oppressive imposing mission of a new world order, arises, more and more, as the armed arm of the organized crime.
