"Degrading..."

Translated "Avante!" article by Luís Carapinha, Member of the PCP International Department

Porochenko, the Ukranian president, was received in Ankara by his Turkish counterpart, last week. The visit and the delivered conjoint statement underline military cooperation issues, both concerning the bilateral plan as the NATO, of which Ukraine is not a member ( recalling the NATO Bucharest Summit, in 2008, that promised the ex- Soviet republic inclusion). Turkey and Ukraine agreed to reinforce security within the Black Sea and according to Porochenko, Ankara is to support Kiev restore the jurisdiction on Crimea(!). On the other hand, Ukraine has proposed to the Turkish capital, regarding the privatization programme at a large scale, and announced for 2016. Precisely, the property and military alignment issues – the unequal association treaty with the EU is related to both – are among the major issues concerning the 2014 coup, besides pushing Ukraine unto the civil war abyss. The bilateral meeting is crossed by a mist of flagrant opportunism, cynicism and demagogic delirium. Possibly a buff -opera scenario, but not less disastrous for peace and democracy interests amid the two countries and regions.

Porochenko’s credibility, as the electoral masquerade winner, with which the coup was to legalize power, is low, although the continuous fabrication campaign on the enemy, in progress. And worse than the president comes Iatseniúk, the vice-president – who declared, when taking over his seat, to perform a kamikaze political role, but meanwhile, remained and profited to expand substantially his fortune -, and whose exoneration has been announced as imminent, in Kiev. The oligarchy president electoral promises were abandoned: to step down from business ( in less than two years in power his assets multiplied many times); to stop war, almost immediately, within some days and not weeks (the bloody conflict in Ukraine carries on for about two years and Kiev insists to apply the 2015 Minsk agreement decisions towards a political and negotiated solution); never to bomb Donetsk city ( and the Donbass towns and villages, including Donetsk and Lugansk, the capitals, having suffered barbarian bombardments carried out by the Neo-Nazi battalions and Ukrainian troops). The Ukrainian economy is in disruption, in deep recession, ( within a country which never recuperated the 1991 GDP level, the USSR last year), industry and productive apparatus in an accelerated state of destruction, national wealth plundered.

The Ukrainian black land privatization is the major business, a real attempt against the people of Ukraine and a godsend for the agro-business multinationals. The country is in default, subjected to the IMF tranches and blackmail, along with the Maidan coup patronisers’ growing impatience. The inter-oligarchy strives and does not give in, poverty and social inequality indexes increase. The Fascist drift and the repressive via, that calls upon the most primarily anti-communism, adulteration and suppression of the memory and historical truth, do not save Porochenko and his coup allies.

In reality, upon Ankara’s meeting, the Ukrainian troops carried out violent attacks throughout Donetsk outskirts. And Turkish troops occupied positions within Syria, beside the boarder line, on the eve of the conversations rebound, in Geneva. The developments in the military front, during the last months, exposed the Turkish support to the IS ( again underlining that Islamic terrorism is essentially an imperialism creature). But Erdogan, does not give up his Neo-Ottoman reactionary crusade, in its multiple aspects (from anti-democratic asphyxia unto the intervention in Syria along with the sinister agreements with the EU on the refugees). The Ankara and Kiev alliance, already announced, and although minor divergences, towards the common master, is in itself, the nature and expression of the hard deepening of the capitalism general crisis.
