To the Central Committe of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)
1st, August 2008
Dear Comrades,
It was with great sorrow that we learnt about the passing away of comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet, an historical leader of the communist and national liberation movements in India, an outstanding figure of the international communist movement, who dedicated his whole life to the struggle for national and social emancipation of the working class of India and to the ideals of Socialism and Communism.
In conveying to you the most heartfelt condolences of the Portuguese communists for the great loss suffered by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the communists, the workers and the people of India, we are reminded of the great contribution given by comrade Surjeet, together with comrade Álvaro Cunhal, for the establishment and development of the solid relations of friendship and solidarity between our two Parties, and for the close cooperation between the PCP and the CPI (M), during particularly difficult times in the History of the communist movement, in defending and affirming the validity of Marxism-Leninism and the actuality and necessity of socialism.
With profound feelings of grief and fraternal solidarity, which through you we would also like to express to the family and friends of Comrade Surjeet, we convey to you, dear comrades, our best greetings.
