One cannot allow media manipulation, round the attempts in New York, ten years ago, to leave behind the Chile tragedy on September 11, moreover when, before the development of a vast juvenile and popular movement, the Fascist beast strikes again by assaulting the Chile Communist Party headquarters. In these times of the great capital’s violent offensive, with the purpose of reducing to the utmost the workforce unit costs and re-colonize the planet, the meaning and the lessons of the Fascist military coup on September 11, 1973, must never be forgotten.
Firstly, because the Popular Unity government overthrowing , conceived,promoted and financed by the CIA, together with the terror system which it gave place to, shows until where imperialism ’s criminal nature and the dominant classes’treason can reach in order to retard the course of History. Before socialism defeats, reaction and imperialism present, not only more aggressively, but their criminal action has become more impudent, reaching the UN concealing, as in Libya. The USA’s role on what concerns imprisonment, torture, assassination and the disappearance of thousands of Chileans was concealed and denied, and many great political and juridical battles were necessary, supported by the strength of international solidarity in order to disclose the situation, currently, the simple calling upon of “the right of humanitarian interference” and the “ protection duty” seem to be sufficient to justify the State terrorism crimes, along with bombardments, invasions and occupations, sequestrations, selective assassinations, torture centres and secret prisons, the Habeas Corpus abolition itself.
Secondly, because the anti-communist ideology, which nurtured Pinochet’s fascist coup and justified the democratic rights’ brutal liquidation within Chile, is again raising its eyebrow. Frontally, as in many East European countries, were it has become the State policy, or more artfully , as in Portugal. But always together with a same XX th century history revision nature, of denying class struggle,
criminalizing resistance and popular struggle, and surreptitious introducing security measures, namely within the European Union.
In the third place, galloping the Fascist coup, was the most ferocious liberal fundamentalism, the Chicago boys. Chile, became a Milton Friedman’s experimental lab, which Tatcher and Reagan turned into an authentic crusade and currently prevail among the European Union’s policies. The vertiginous capital centralization and concentration and the brutal exploitation to whichthe Chile workers and people were subjected to, was only possible with the democratic rights destruction, prohibiting and repression on the strong Chile trade-union movement, the Communist party illegality and other progressive forces allied to the Popular Union round Salvador Allende, a true and dignified socialist. And this is a lesson of great actuality when, side by side, with a very strong anti-social offensive which points out unto a civilization set-back, more and more centralizing and anti-democratic mechanisms are developing, namely within the European Union, under the command of the great financial and speculative capital, considered by some, as a Fascism version.
But there exists a greater lesson to be taken both from the Chile September 11 and the heroic resistance to which it gave place. The greater the struggle difficulties and the sharp History curves, reaction, fascism and imperialism end up by being defeated through the workers’ and peoples’ organized struggle,. The winds, which currently blow throughout Latin America, including within Chile and its great student and popular struggles, in which communists have an honourable frontline position, and are proving it.
