"Capitalist voraciousness"

Translated "Avante!"article by Pedro Guerreiro, Member of the Secretariat of the CC and Responsible of the International Department

Released by OXFAM and according to a recent report, every two days, a new millionaire was born, during last year, and in the whole, their global wealth increased about 762 thousand million dollars, during that same period.

The same report states, that about 82% of the produced wealth, ought to have been concentrated in the hands of 1% of the richest (capitalists) worldwide, during 2017. At the same time, 50% of the poorest population in the world, did not perceive any increase in their income. The report affirms that 42 people accumulate the same wealth other than about 3.7 thousand million of the poorest round the world – in other words, about half Humanity.

The United Nations point out, that round 767 million people survive with less than 1.9 dollars per day ( defined as poverty line). At the same time, the United Nations point out that about 815 million people survive undernourished. Mal-nutrition is the death cause of almost half of the children under five (about 45%) – about 3.1 million of children ,every year.

Also referred by the United Nations, it is expected that the total unemployed workers, worldwide, stands above the 192 million workers , in 2018. In 2017, round 42% workers throughout the world – 1.4 thousand million – ought to have undergone precarious work. In that same year, 300 million workers, although in functions , ought to have survived with their families, with a 1.9 dollars a day. The United Nations estimate that the number of workers that survive, in extreme poverty, in countries pointed out as economically developed, remains above 114 million, affecting 40% of all workers, in 2018. Back to 2016, about 152 million children, with ages from 5 to 17, were subjected to child labour.

The United Nations point out the existence of a non-precedent number of 65.6 million displaced people, all over the world – mainly as a war consequence. Among these, almost 22.5 million refugees, more than half, being under the age of 18. In 2015, the number of immigrants achieved 244 millions, worldwide – a 41% increase, reporting back to 2000.

In 2016, according to the United Nations, more than 40 million people from all over the world, ought to have been victims of slavery – 71% being women and girls. Women represent almost the whole of sexual exploitation victims.

These are examples, among many others, of the capitalist system brutal reality and of what it enforces, by a criminal manner, to millions of human beings, when economic development and scientific-technical advances, achieved by Humanity, if duly placed at their service, ought to permit the resolve of great problems and overpass the unacceptable wounds that mark our times. A structural crisis system, of exploiter, oppressor, aggressive, predatory nature, that more and more exposes itself, despite the huge means available – including the ideological conditioning and diversion – used, in order to hinder and attempt to impede its revolutionary overcoming.
