On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the victory of Vietnam over the US aggression, the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Portuguese Communist party sent a letter to the Communist Party of Vietnam which states that:
«At a time when we celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam’s victory over US imperialism’s aggression, we warmly salute the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese people for the heroic struggle waged for the freedom, sovereignty and independence of your Homeland, for social progress and socialism.
The resistance and the struggle for national liberation of the Vietnamese people garnered solidarity, recognition and admiration of the democratic and progressive forces all over the world. A heroic struggle where the Communist Party of Vietnam, under the leadership of Ho Chi Minh, assumed a revolutionary vanguard role, uniting all the Vietnamese people from the North and the South of the country.
The victory of the Vietnamese people, their unbreakable will and determination to fight and win, the extreme examples of courage they gave to the world and the path of social and economic development that was launched after the victory over US imperialism, guided towards building a socialist society in reunited Vietnam, was and remains an important source of inspiration for the communists and revolutionaries from around the world.
At a time when imperialism’s exploitative and aggressive offensive intensifies and the dangers of war multiply, to remember and celebrate the 40th anniversary of the liberation of Vietnam, is also to reaffirm confidence in the peoples' struggle for peace, freedom, sovereignty, social progress and socialism.»
The letter ends with a reaffirmation of the everlasting solidarity of the Portuguese Communist Party to the Communist Party of Vietnam and to the Vietnamese people, wishing success in the path of building a new society guided by the values and ideals of socialism.
