Jerónimo de Sousa, General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party, conveyed warmest congratulations of the Portuguese Communists to Miguel Díaz-Canel on his election as President of the Republic of Cuba, expressing best wishes of success in his exercise of the highest responsibilities of the Cuban State.

In his message, the General Secretary of the PCP confirms the "active and fraternal solidarity of the Portuguese Communist Party with the struggle of the communists and Cuban people in defence of the sovereignty of their Homeland and their arduous and militant action to build a socialist society", stressing also the invaluable significance of the Cuban Revolution and what it represents "as a stimulus to the struggle of the workers and peoples of the world for their liberation from capitalist exploitation and oppression".

Jerónimo de Sousa reaffirms that the PCP will do everything in its power to "help defeat imperialism’s continuing and multifaceted aggression against Cuba and end the criminal blockade by the United States."
